Cocoa

From Humble Beginings

Studio Thirteen’s Cocoa location began life in 2006 in Cape Canaveral as a small hole in the wall tattoo studio owned by the late Jim Journey.  Before passing away, Jim sold the studio to a young upcoming artist named Zakk Ross, who had not yet learned to tattoo, and was fortunate enough to inherit Leif McHatton as the working artist at the studio during that time.

After years of struggling, a move to another Cape Canaveral studio, and finally a move to Cocoa Beach, Zakk and Leif found a home with a much larger crew in the original flagship location in the heart of Cocoa Beach near Ron Jon’s.  This location served as the headquarters for countless tattoos going out to the greater Central Florida area, housing some of the world’s greatest tattoo artists during that time.

After continuing to grow, and expanding out to Orlando, it was time to give the old Flagship a facelift, and a new location was sought in Cocoa Village, overlooking the river there.  This location sports unfinished beam ceilings, an authentic historic look and feel, and some of the best amenities available in the tattoo industry.  So come pay us a visit, but before you do, check out some of the amazing work by our resident artists there.

Our Team

Leif McHatton
Leif McHatton
Tattoo Artist

Leif is the longest standing member of the team, having helped to train a large portion of the staff. With an incredible versatility, Leif is capable of any tattoo you can bring to him, but has his own unique style he developed through the years. Being our most senior artist, Leif is typically very heavily booked, so you should contact us as early as possible for an appointment.

Angela Emr
Angela Emr
Tattoo Artist

Angela is another graduate from our Apprenticeship program, who we actually had to watch draw to prove she wasn’t tracing her work, as her mastery of every style she touched was unbelievable. She has since made her mark with illustrative pieces, drawing from her experiences to create a beautiful presentation on each piece.

Zakk Ross

Tattoo Artist

Zakk is the second longest standing member of the team, having purchased the studio originally around 2007. Zakk has recently stepped away from much of them management to continue developing his artistic style, which pulls from modern cultural influences to combine them with cutting edge design elements for his own unique brand of art.

Brian Dock
Brian Dock
Tattoo Artist

Dock has worked in the industry for many years, starting his career in Ohio, and pushing hard to learn a wide array of techniques. His illustration background, and passion for nostalgic pop culture and Japanese influenced art has led to the development of a style that can only be described as Dock.

Brandon Rodgers
Brandon Rodgers
Tattoo Artist

Brandon joined the crew after working with Dock in both Ohio and Florida. His artwork impressed us early on, before he ever join our team, and has continued to do so ever since. He focuses on strong design principles, whether it be his world-class script work, or his traditional inspired unique art, ensuring a strong fit with the body of the client.

Kaitlyn Jones
Kaitlyn Jones
Tattoo Apprentice

Kaitlyn came to us as one of the most put together young artists we’ve ever seen, at the age of 17. She worked through her time learning all the tricks of the trade she could pick up, before being able to actually practice her craft upon turning 18.
She’s moved into the late stages of apprenticeship, and provides high quality work of small to medium size out of the studio. No matter what your preference, she’s ready to take it on, having studied under some of the best artists the studio has to offer.
